A parliamentary constituent of the
European cooperation should be moved to a new level, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman
of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,
declared at the joint press conference of the parliamentary leaders of Ukraine, Lithuania
and Poland.
He expects that cooperation in the humanitarian sector will extend. "The foundations and traditions of our societies, common historical events will be discussed to carry on the achievements of our predecessors in the domain of human rights and freedoms," he stated.
It is topical due to the 60th anniversary of signing the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, V.Lytvyn admitted. He announced that a special meeting dedicated to this anniversary would be held at the Verkhovna Rada on October 22.
That day, the issue of energy security was discussed at the sitting of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and Sejm and Senate of the Republic of Poland. According to V.Lytvyn, it confirmed unity of Europe. "Such a sensitive issue as energy supply of the European Union can not be settled without Ukraine´s participation. Thus, it only proves that Ukraine is a European state," he stressed.
V.Lytvyn attaches great importance to the dialogue between the countries-producers of energy resources, transit countries and consumer countries. He believes that all the participants of the process need effective and responsible resolutions. He also stressed that coordinated standpoint of the Head of State, the Prime Minister and the Parliament accounts for predictable and reliable relations with Russia.
